Exclusive: This Chicago stockbroker's latest investment? A luxury resort in Franklin

“The mastermind behind Southall, Franklin’s new 325-acre-plus luxury resort and working farm, is not who you’d expect.

Paul Mishkin has spent over 40 years in Chicago’s stock trading industry, founding Simplex Trading in 2004 at the cusp of the transition from shouting in the pits to using the internet, and taught tennis in the years prior.

Yet this June, nearly five years in the making, Southall will open for visitors — aiming to attract a new demographic of high-end traveler to the area.

‘The business I manage in Chicago, I’ve been at it for 40 years and it’s still my main business and it has afforded me many opportunities,” Mishkin told the Business Journal. “At this point, I wanted to do things that I feel enhance my life, lifestyle investments. I did not seek out being in the hospitality business, my plan evolved.’”
