This private residence is a sensitive renovation and expansion of a historic 1890s Folk Victorian home in Franklin, Tennessee. The Owner approached the project with the goal of preserving the home's historic integrity and architectural character while enhancing modern livability and comfort. The original floor plan was maintained and carried through the addition, supporting the period’s domestic ideals of comfort and sociability. To maintain the home’s heritage, additions followed original lines, old materials were repurposed, and new materials were selected to match the original home. An extensive period of research was conducted to guide design and acquisitions for both exterior and interior. The project included the addition of a new primary bedroom suite, a light-filled great room, a two-car garage with bonus space above, and a spacious back porch—all designed to complement the home’s original proportions, detailing, and material palette. The result is a seamless blend of historic charm and contemporary function, demonstrating our ability to honor period architecture while delivering thoughtful, modern upgrades for today’s living.
