The 1890s Hayes House once served as the hub of operations for the Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin, TN, the center of the Tennessee Walking Horse through the 1900s. In addition, the cornerstone for the Main Barn was laid on December 6, 1941. Both structures had fallen into disrepair over the last several decades, but when the City of Franklin purchased the property in 2004 for use as a park, it sparked a partnership between local nonprofit Friends of Franklin Parks and the City to revive this forgotten jewel. Utilizing a trove of historical info, including on-site input from members of the family who had lived and worked on the farm as well as working closely with the State Historical Preservation Office of Tennessee, the team came together to create something exceedingly special that will serve the community and tell the farm’s story for years to come. The projects were so successful that plans are underway to further rehabilitate structures on the property and 906 is excited to help continue to tell the Harlinsdale Farm story!
“Friends of Franklin Parks has worked closely with 906 Studio Architects on signature restorations at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm, including the restoration of the Ca. 1899 Hayes House recently completed and the Ca. 1944 Main Barn. 906 has been essential in the management of the historically sensitive projects within a municipal park setting, and has added tremendous value in the design and construction phases.” - Torrey Barnhill, Director, Friends of Franklin Parks
“I worked with 906 Studio on the Hayes House, and The Main Barn at Harlinsdale Farm, two projects on the National Register of Historic Places. The team made the process much easier due to their experience with working on historic projects and being familiar with the city’s codes and regulations. Both are complete and I am looking forward to working more in the future with this team.” - Shahad Abdulrahman, Project Manager, City of Franklin
